The paper reports research findings of a survey on primary, secondary, high school and university students’ opinions regarding what are the most important characteristics of a successful person in a local community. High achievement motivation and wealth predominantly characterize the profile of an eminent person, but the most prominent characteristics of a talented person are knowledge and abilities. The issue of a relation between eminence and high abilities is discussed in the framework of providing adequate educational support for the highly able during their schooling.
