Education in multinational and multiconfessional serbia: Recognition of diversities and similarities

Апстракт
Due to the current reform of curriculum in the Republic of Serbia, and taking into account the fact that a number of ethnic communities have been living for centuries in this country, a more accurate definition of the concept of national culture and national history should be provided in the Framework of Serbian National Curriculum. Investigations of the recently changed teaching content show that the main problem is still the recognition of national features of other peoples who lived or are living in Serbia and in neighboring countries. The issues to be discussed are: What is the concept of national culture in Serbian National Curriculum? Does the Curriculum anticipate and to what extent the teaching of content-related cultural characteristics of other ethnic communities because of their similarities and differences? What is the concept of national history teaching in National Curriculum? If teaching content of national history involves the history of Serbs living out of Se...rbian territory (in Croatia and Bosnia), does such approach to national history imply the inclusion of the majority peoples’ (Croats, Muslims /Bosnians/) history of Croatia and Bosnia? To adequately define the concept of national culture and national history, the results of scientific studies should be respected.
