Abstract
This work considers the relationship between learning and creativity within personal construct theory. It criticizes the prevailing paradigm of learning, which attaches too much significance to reflexivity as a mechanism for change of knowledge and values. It talks about the strong connection between learning and the Experience and Creativity Cycles, which suggests that learning can be observed as a creative activity. It explains the use of rhetoric as a way to stimulate such learning. Activities to stimulate learning as a creative act undertaken by students of constructivist therapy and counseling education are described: encouraging students to develop their own version of constructivism, the use of narrative and metaphors to "grasp" and channel new insights, the creation of an atmosphere of dialogue and openness to other theoretical and methodological approaches.
